About the League of Women Voters of Winchester
The League of Women Voters of Winchester grew out of the women’s suffrage movement in the late 1800’s. The Winchester League has been active since 1920, when women successfully won the right to vote with the passage of the 19th Amendment.

Open to both men and women, the League’s goals are:

    1.     To encourage informed and active participation of citizens in   government as voters, candidates for political office, and               other civic service

    2.     To increase understanding of public policy issues

    3.     To influence public policy through education and advocacy

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan organization. The League may take action on policies in the public interest, but does not support or oppose any political party or candidate. Our membership fee contributes to national, state, and local League of Women Voters activities. The Winchester League activities include:
  • Winchester candidate forums and debates
  • Voter guides for Winchester elections
  • Voter registration drives
  • Educational forums on key policy issues
  • Promotion of student civic learning and resident engagement with government
  • Honoring community members for civic leadership
  • Working with the national and state Leagues of Women Voters to develop policy positions.
